These small, colorful mixed-media drawings mark a turning point in my work. Part of a series of thirty-five, they started from random marks on discarded test pages, their outcomes always unpredictable. They evolved, built upon, crisscrossed, and scattered lines into a visual journal, eventually becoming a story. They document the past five years, from botanical shapes that reference marine life, with swirling and flowing lines. They are intimate portraits of my unconscious thoughts. Using markers, pens, and watercolor, I drew previously ignored emotions, shaping pain and grief by adding to the existing stains and unplanned washes. Beneath daily life, these images reveal unexplored depths, personal ecosystems, and climates emerging from within—blooming, bleeding, and dripping with pigment-filled water. What surfaced were colors I hadn't seen in some time.
