LEAF ANALYSIS
My parents worked in science and encouraged my curiosity about the natural world, which then led to questions about what things were made of and how they operated. My interest in art grew into a mix of visual analysis and hands-on experimentation. From observing nature, I became fascinated with leaves and their constantly changing shapes, sizes, and colors. All of these can be found in my backyard, showing countless similarities and variations. The form of a leaf is not fixed; it reacts to its environment, and similarly, my artwork responds to the changing materials and surfaces I use in my experiments. Leaves are single units among the hundreds of thousands on a tree, but each one is unique. I use these individual shapes to create patterns by multiplying, mirroring, and overlapping. I enjoy the unexpected visuals when these shapes are arranged, bringing each leaf together where it shares a point of connection and creating indescribable spaces between them.
