REFLECTIONS
With this work, I explore concepts of memory and place, recalling a single moment of floating with my face beneath the waves, the sunlight illuminating the sand beneath me. There was a space I inhabited, between the surface and the sand, where everything refracted amid the undulating waves and above me, intersecting patterns of emerald greens, vibrant pinks, and corals. These overlapping bands of dyed cloth create a structure of intermingling mental and physical spaces. Organic, flowing shapes traverse their horizontal and vertical strips, reflecting the dense, towering trees of the rainforest. They break apart and reconnect through reflections that continually emerge and then vanish. My memories mirror these surfaces—images that accompany me as I navigate the flow of time. In these pieces, I emphasize the internal environment, where patterns of change and adaptation form a dynamic structure upon which we build. Time adopts an organic form, with leafy vines and vibrant flowers crossing and blending, constantly merging our present with past environments.
